Adventure Based Leadership Retreat

This action-packed weekend includes the entire Leadership Seminar and a variety of personal challenges including high and low rope courses scaling walls, and hiking trails. This enables students to immediately apply their newly-learned principles of success.

We learn by doing. An apprentice learns a craft by watching, listening and then performing tasks so that the rank of journeyman is achieved. Similarly, Path of Success uses the excitement of the outdoors to embed into the minds of students, leadership principles and skills. Working in cooperation with local facilities, including Camp Sloane, Lakeville, CT, Path of Success provides a unique experience utilizing certified outdoor trainers to provide memorable experiences to each and every student..

Path of Success Students of Excellence (POSSE)

A comprehensive system that provides leadership skills, through support and training to economically disadvantaged youth beginning at 14 years of age and continuing until they enter college. The six-phase POSSE system, based on a decade of youth and faculty feedback, specifically provides leadership development, character training, and career navigation proficiency through retreats and ongoing interaction involving peer groups, mentors, tutors, community leaders, and parents.

After delivering the Leadership Seminar to youth from all types of backgrounds—both inner city and private preparatory schools, both incarcerated juveniles and affluent students—for a decade, Path of Success has reached another milestone. Continuing to strive toward its mission to deliver services that are designed around youth needs and desires, a comprehensive, long-term approach has been developed.

The Path of Success Students of Excellence ("POSSE") program is a four-year comprehensive system, which identifies financially disadvantaged students with potential in the spring semester of their eighth grade year, and provides them leadership training, character development and academic support until they enter college. Through the six-phase system described below, and based on the principles taught in the Leadership Seminar, POSSE participants take part in leadership retreats, outdoor challenges, summer internships, community service activities, technology training, and college preparatory work.
